Pernelle yarn is made from long, high-quality hemp fibres, giving it a natural shine and authentic drape. It is ecologically dyed with GOTS-certified pigments in the North of France. It is not chemically softened. The “natural” colour is undyed; it is raw hemp yarn; its colour will vary depending on the seasons and sunlight levels. It will soften very quickly during knitting and the first soaking without warping or stretching. It is a yarn that softens and develops a patina over time, like washed linen. Its cultivation is very ecological because it requires neither fertiliser nor additional irrigation.

Pernelle yarn is suitable for all types of knitting, sweaters, tops, colourwork or lace. It will also define patterns very well and will not need to be blocked after each wash. Even if this yarn is not elastic, you quickly get used to changing your tension after a few rows. For really sensitive people, it is possible to soak the skeins in wool wash before putting them on spools to soften the yarn before knitting. All knitting needles are suitable, but for people who knit tightly, it is better to turn to metal needles.

Maintenance is easy; hemp is very durable and therefore safe. It is machine washable, but can also be washed by soaking it in a bath of water and wool wash. It dries quickly and does not necessarily need to be ironed.

Hemp is one of the first fibres to be used in the history of textiles. It is very durable and full of natural properties that provide great comfort when worn. Hypoallergenic, anti-UV, highly absorbent, anti-bacterial but also thermo-regulating, this fantastic fibre will insulate your body temperature from outside temperatures, whether hot or cold (it is also used to insulate houses).

Hemp uses only 1/20th the amount of water as regular cotton to grow and process. It uses almost no water to grow and can usually be rain-fed, and is less vulnerable to bugs so doesn’t require pesticide and artificial fertilisers. And unlike cotton which depletes the soil of nutrients, hemp can be grown consecutively for over twenty years without the soil being affected.

Natissea was started by Mathilde, a fashion designer in Paris who was really keen to participate in the creation of sustainable and responsible fashion necessary for the preservation of our planet.

She totally fell in love with hemp because of its quality and its countless natural properties.

The name Natissea, refers to the necessary and fundamental links that humans “weave” with “nature” in order to “seal” their well-being and fulfilment.

Natissea was born from a deep desire to protect nature, animals and also the people who will wear our knitwear. Our skin is permeable and soaks up all the substances with which it comes into contact.
