Let’s Crochet! Issue 2 features 17 crochet patterns from talented designers around the world. The patterns are vibrant and inventive, ranging from sweaters, tops and cardigans to bags and other accessories. The photography enhances the fresh, fun and modern vibe of the crochet pieces.
We also meet the Canadian fibre artist Alexandria Masse, who is known for her fun, whimsical crochet sculptures, but also for her support for feminism and women’s reproductive rights. In our Viewpoint article, Melanie Falick, a lifelong knitter, tells how she picked up a crochet hook as an adult and discovered not just a new creative medium, but a new rhythm of making.
It features an abundance of crochet techniques: mosaic crochet, filet crochet, lace… You can also find many lovely textured stitch patterns, such as the jasmine stitch, adding visual interest to Krysten Wilson’s Haven Hobo bag.
The patterns range from clothes to accessories, so there is something for everyone: colourful summer tops and tees, soft and cosy cardigans, sturdy and stylish bags — not to mention that perfect crochet shawl! For a quick project, they recommend the Checkers handwarmers by Jen Yard.
And what would a crochet magazine be without a few granny squares and stitches? Anna Erlandsson’s Fibonacci skirt uses the granny stitch in a timeless, architectural piece.
The patterns were created by the following designers: Ana-Maria Babanica, Yessabett Bueno, Olga Buraya-Kefelian, Ana Diakova, Emma Ducher, Anna Erlandsson, Kirsten Joel, Sarianna Lehtonen, Julia Madill, Andrea Mares, Kare Peacock, Nikki Reynolds, Lisa Richardson, Monika Soltysik, Audrey Trecasse, Krysten Wilson and Jen Yard.
